My name is Vincent Kortleve, and I am the host of ‘The physio communicator’. I’m a Dutch physiotherapist and committed to the theme of communication for two decades now.
I’m born in 1966. And happily married! We have three beautiful daughters!!
I like to cycle, hike and ski.
I studied psychology and developed important skills and knowledge from this domain, because I consider this necessary as a physio.
We physiotherapists are experts in human movement. In order to be effective, it’s important to understand the fundamentals of human behaviour and how we can help people change their behaviour effectively.
That’s why, among other reasons, communication is so very important; to help clients change.
For one day a week I work as a physiotherapist at SMC Papendal, where I see people who struggle for a long time with a pain problem. What a great job we have!
The major part of my week I train and teach healthcare professionals in all aspects of communication in the Netherlands and Belgium. The main topics are communication, shared decision-making, motivational interviewing, pain, behaviour change and goal setting.
I’m a member of MINT, the international network of trainers in Motivational Interviewing.
In 2016 I published a book on communication skills for physiotherapists, in Dutch. It was quite successful. Nowadays, the book is used in most of the (under)graduate programs of the Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences. In 2021 I published the second edition (shop here).
Also in 2021, Elsevier translated the second Dutch edition in English and published it!
So now available on your local bookshop and online.
